Autumn Update 2020

It was a very long summer.

Just when things started picking up Grammar Captive was told by HostLabs, Grammar Captive’s former, remote, third-party, host server, that the Grammar Captive website would be moved from California to Canada where it would be hosted by HostPapa. As Grammar Captive was in the process of creating a new test server in Seattle, Washington that would mirror the HostLabs server in California, everything suddenly became many times more difficult. Not only was the publicly available Grammar Captive website rendered dysfunctional for a month, but the work on the would-be, local, private, test-sever mirror was no longer valid.

The good news is that the Grammar Captive website is now fully functional again, and that the local test-server that mirrors the public site is nearly complete. Yes, there is still much more to do on the public, but what was good before is now good again.

During the course of this ordeal Grammar Captive stumbled upon Homebrew technology, and would like to give a shout-out to Homebrew (see the Credits option under the Other menu in the Grammar Captive navigation bar) for making the transition a much easier task. I was struggling dearly with the transition from my former MacOS 7.5 environment to my new MacOS 10.15.7 environment. Alas, had I only learned about Homebrew earlier in the transition!

Now, I cannot promise that podcasting will begin before the spring of 2021, but Grammar Captive should be well-poised in the not to distant future.

Yes, you may have begun to believe that Grammar Captive will never be fully realized, and your doubt would be well-justified. For, I have often felt the same. Maybe someday I will write a book about its tortuous path to success. I promise, however, not to undertake such an adventure until the Grammar Captive website succeeds. In the end, I do not wish to devote my literary pursuits to a failed endeavor.

عيد مبارك

As SARS Corona II (CoVID-19) wears on Grammar Captive picks up speed. It is hoped that very soon a new test server for the nudge.online, Grammar Captive, and GC Tutor websites will be set up on nudge.online’s new equipment. This test server will be integrated with nudge.online’s new host server, HostLabs (formerly Lunarpages), and the Bitbucket cloud.

The advantages of all of this are the ability to develop online when the HostLabs’ server is down or no internet connection is available, local testing that will be immediately compatible with the remote HostLabs’ server, and accessibility to any and all desired joint development initiatives.

Yes, all of this takes time. This said, patience and perseverance — namely, time — conquers all.

I wish my Saudi and other Muslim friends my very best on probably the most celebrated holiday of the Muslim calendar.

رمضان كريم

It has been a very slow start this year, but things will surely pick up once the CoVID-19 health crisis is behind us.

While you are fasting this year, keep in mind that your immune system is your best protection against the spread of any virus.

Stay strong. Keep your distance. And, stay healthy.

Best wishes!

Address Change

The doubling of address notification under the menu item Contact/Info in the navigation bar has been corrected.

In addition, Grammar Captive’s new physical address has been added and the old address removed.

Further, because the content now loads only upon clicking, the email address and telephone number can no longer be picked up by alien webcrawlers that use the information for unwanted solicitation.

GC Tutor on iPad

The multi-lingual feature of GC Tutor is now available on iPad, though it remains a better entry from a computer.

The iOS operating environment does not take kindly to parallax, but at least the images that highlight the message are now visible.

More Corrective Action

It was recently discovered that the link to the author of the Grammar Captive webdesign, Hashimori Iwato (橋守岩人), was not working properly. This failure has been remedied. You can find the link at the bottom of the page, and you are of course welcome to take a look.

My apologies to the designer.

Damage Control

The still yet unexplained disappearance of the multilingual functionality of the GC Tutor landing page has been remedied and the functionality restored.

Also, the failure of the Captcha functionality in Grammar Captive’s local search engines will be restored soon. A PHP upgrade appears necessary.

Thank you for your patience. This year will be the transition year from development to production.
